Ethereum Testnet Successfully Verifies ZCash Transaction’s zkSNARKS

Bringing more privacy to the Ethereum blockchain is not an easy feat. To do so, developers have to implement a bunch of new code. The obvious solution is integrating zkSNARKS, which are also used by ZCash. It now appears the Ropsten testnet successfully verified this particular component of a ZCash transaction. Electric vehicles still suffer from a few major drawbacks. First of all, they need to be recharged on a regular basis to cover further distances. Secondly, they are not necessarily all that fast. A recent experiment by Proterra shows how they heavy-duty battery-electric bus successfully drove 1,102.2 miles on one charge. This is a major development in the world of electric vehicles.

A New Electric Vehicle Range Record

A lot of companies are trying to tackle the electric vehicle industry right now. Most efforts still focus on cars, but we also see a growing interest in trucks, buses, and even watercraft. It is too early to tell how all of these ventures will play out, as we are still in the very early days of electric vehicles altogether. Whenever a major breakthrough is made, however, it should not be ignored.

According to an official press release by Proterra, the company made one such breakthrough a few days ago. They are known for its strong focus on heavy-duty electric transportation. They are interested in seeing how far they can drive an electric bus using just one charge. Considering how such a vehicle requires a lot more energy compared to the everyday car, the results would usually be rather poor. Their recent test showed that this is not necessarily the case.

They set a new record for driving the longest distance with an electric vehicle on a single charge. The 40-foot Catalyst E2 max travels a distance of 1,101.2 miles while using a battery capable of storing 660 kWh. This test was conducted on the Navistar Proving Grounds in New Carlisle, IN. Proterra has been improving their battery performance and distance traveled for several years in a row now. Just last year, their record was 603 miles using 440 KwH of energy storage.

The company has made significant progress over the past year. They almost doubled the distance traveled while only increasing the energy storage capacity by 50%. That in itself is a pretty big development which will send some shockwaves throughout the electric vehicle industry as a whole. The previous world record sat at 1,013.76 miles, which was beaten quite easily. That record was set using a passenger vehicle weighing 46 times less than the Catalyst E2 max.

Although covering more distance is only one aspect of electric vehicles people need to take into consideration, the progress made cannot be denied. While not everyone will use electric buses anytime soon, it is good to know they can charge up and cover a fair amount of distance without too many issues. This new record shows there are viable low operating cost per mile solutions compared to fossil fuel. Whether or not we will an be industrial-wide adoption of electric buses in our lifetime, remains to be seen.

Proterra is not a company focusing on consumer-grade vehicles by any means. However, if they can show this amount of progress over the span of twelve months, imagine how much things can improve when dealing with regular cars and vans in the near future. If these vehicles can cover more ground while requiring smaller battery capacity upgrades, a bright future lies ahead. For now, it remains to be seen how the consumer-grade electric vehicle industry will evolve. Major progress is being made in front of our own eyes.

Bitcoin Price is Stuck in Limbo at $3,900 due to Declining Trading Volume

Not too much is happening in the world of cryptocurrency right now. With Dash being the only currency making any major movements, there is little to talk about. One thing that has become rather apparent is how the overall cryptocurrency trading is less than half of what it could be right now. This is mainly visible as far as Bitcoin is concerned. Then again, as long as the Bitcoin price remains stuck at $3,900, not much will happen.

Bitcoin Price is Still Stuck At $3,900

Most people are still keeping a close eye on the Bitcoin price chart right now It is evident the world’s leading cryptocurrency is not making any major moves right now. In fact, the price remains close to $3,900 for several days now and it doesn’t appear that situation will change anytime soon whatsoever. Moreover, the overall trading volume is still pretty low, which seemingly indicates the investors are cooling off on Bitcoin right now.

The problem is no one can pinpoint why things are moving so slowly right now. It is true China has made some annoying remarks and introduced some roadblocks which will pose a problem. However, Bitcoin is not about China or its exchanges and there is no reason for the Bitcoin price to remain stuck in sideways movement for too long. Then again, every time we see the Bitcoin price go down for a while, it takes weeks, if not months, until any other major movement occurs.

Contrary to what some media outlets may claim, the value of Bitcoin is not zero. That may be the case for some people, though, as not everyone sees the merit of cryptocurrency to begin with. No one will be surprised to learn most of the people sharing that shortsighted opinion are bankers and other individuals involved in the financial sector. The world’s largest bank recently told everyone not to ignore Bitcoin, which further confirms big things will happen in the long run.

Unfortunately, the lack of Bitcoin trading volume isn’t helping matters all that much either. More specifically, without proper volume, the Bitcoin price will remain in its current state of flux. With a 1.08% drop in value over the past 24 hours is not something to write home about, although it is far from spectacular either. The missing trading volume doesn’t belong to Chinese exchanges, though.

More specifically,  Bitfinex and bitFlyer are still leading the charge when it comes to Bitcoin trading volume. However, even Bitfinex is down to about 30%% of its regular volume. bitFlyer generates 1/3rd of Bitfinex’s volume, followed by Bitstamp, HitBTC, and Bithumb. It just seems no one is interested in either buying or selling Bitcoin right now, which could be a sign of big movements looming on the horizon. Then again, it may also be a prelude of what we can expect in the next few days, which means there will be no significant changes for the foreseeable future.

For the time being, a Bitcoin price of $3,886 isn’t all that bad whatsoever. It is not necessarily the value most people would like to see right now, but we have to take the bad with the good. The year 2017 has been pretty solid for the Bitcoin price overall, and it is evident there is still a lot of room for future growth. Whether or not that will happen this year, remains to be seen.
